DELINQUENT TAX SALE DRAWS BIDDERS

(11/23/2007)
It may have been a record number of Calhoun delinquent taxes on the auction block Wednesday, according to Trevia Fulks, Calhoun's Chief Tax Deputy.

Because about 60 people turned out for the sale on the courthouse steps, the auction was moved inside to the courtroom.

Over 40 bidders claimed about 105 holdings, Fulks said.

A number of individuals appeared to bid on the old BF Goodrich/NYA building on Russett Rd., which was listed for sale for back taxes amounting to $3,669.10.

The property is owned by a private non-profit group known as Calhoun Recreational and Development Corporation, which paid the taxes before the deadline the previous day.

The building is reportedly being used for the manufacturing of mine safety equipment, creating about ten jobs.
