FOREST FIRES STRIKE REGION OVER WEEKEND

The West Fork of the Little Kanawha would not likely serve as a fire break, with water barely running in most locations The risk of brush and wood fires is high with the dry weather and falling leaves. Sunday, Roane County Volunteer fire departments answered at least three forest fire calls, one on Scaffold Run, another on Wolf Run and a third late Sunday evening on Slate Road. Calhoun fire departments have answered at least three small brush fires in the past several days. A no outdoor burning ban is in effect until further notice for the state of West Virginia, including the National Forests.
