DROUGHT SPREADING TO MID-ATLANTIC REGION - 43% Of USA Having A Problem

(10/18/2007)

One of the worst droughts in years has officially spread to the Mid-Atlantic region, including western West Virginia.

The federal government says drought conditions which have plagued the West and Southeast are now found across the Ohio Valley and into the southern Great Lakes.

At least nine counties in western West Virginia, including Calhoun, are considered to be in extreme drought. Only nine counties in the state were unaffected by some degree of drought.

At the end of September, the National Climate Data Center reported roughly 43 percent of the United States was experiencing moderate to extreme drought conditions.
