WATER GUN DROWNS BRUSH FIRE ON PLEASANT HILL

(10/16/2007)

A large amount of water from a deck gun quickly drowned the blaze

Extremely dry conditions caused the fire to spread rapidly

A brush fire broke out on Apple Lane just off Rt. 16 north of Grantsville, early yesterday afternoon.

The fire quickly spread because of the extremely dry conditions, but Grantsville firemen were in luck. The fire was close to the road and a deck gun on a pumper truck poured several hundred gallons of water on the blaze, extinguishing it.

Firemen found insulator parts on the ground from a transformer on an electric pole, indicating a possible cause of the fire.

The GVFDs new brush truck was on its first run, a
vehicle put together by the volunteers, carrying
about 200 gallons of water, hoses and forest fire equipment
