GRANTSVILLE MAN ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING AT NEWSPAPER CARRIER - Christopher Todd Smith Facing Drug Charges

(10/16/2007)
Grantsville resident Christopher Todd Smith of 102 Johnson Street has been arrested for allegedly shooting a BB gun at a Charleston Gazette newspaper carrier and for charges related to the possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver or manufacture.

Police Chief Charles Stephens issued arrest warrants last night, taking Smith before a magistrate.

Two assault charges and and two counts of shooting in the street have been filed against Smith, related to more than one incident involving newspaper carrier Charlie Adams of Grantsville.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for Smith's residence on October 5th, at which time Chief Stephens and Trooper 1st Class Jeff Hunt "located a gallon-size bag of marijuana in a dresser drawer," according to Chief Stephens.

Police say they found several other drug-related items, including a plastic bag of marijuana in an aluminum case and a green Tupperware container with marijuana seeds labeled 9/17/07.

During the search, police found a Daisy C02 rifle and Copperhead BBs.

Stephens said he also issued arrest warrants for one count of destruction of property and two counts of shooting in the street.

The report says a pellet struck Adams vehicle during one of the incidents.

Gazette carrier Charlie Adams told police he was shot at a second time with his son in his vehicle during the early morning hours, about 3. a.m. He reported the incident to the Charleston Gazette and called 911, he said.

Smith was recently in trouble with authorities for riding an ATV in the Town of Grantsville on a suspended license.
