OFFICIALS WORRIED ABOUT FOREST FIRES

(10/13/2007)
The Division of Forestry is fearing the worst fire season in 20 years.

The latest Division of Forestry figures show 46 fires have burned 282 acres since the fall fire season started Oct. 1.

The long dry summer has upped the problem.

The agency reports 159 fires have burned just over 782 acres since July 1.

During fall fire season, outdoor fires are permitted only between 4 p.m. and 7 a.m. The season runs through the end of the year.
