ELIZABETH AND CRESTON RESIDENTS CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ABUSE

A Ritchie County grand jury has indicted three people on sexual assault, abuse and neglect charges.

Mary A. McCullough, 29, of Elizabeth, her husband Daniel Allen McCullough, 32, of Elizabeth, and his mother Sheila Kay Smith, 54, of Creston, W.Va., were arrested by Ritchie authorities for sexual abuse on a four-year-old.

Daniel McCullough indicted on four counts of sexual abuse in the first degree; four counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian; two counts of child abuse or neglect creating risk of injury or death; and one count of domestic battery.

Mary McCullough was indicted on nine counts of sexual abuse in the first degree; nine counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian; two counts of child abuse or neglect creating risk of injury or death; and one count of domestic battery.

Smith, of Creston, was indicted on one count of sexual abuse in the first degree and one count of sexual abuse by a parent guardian or custodian.

The McCulloughs lived in Smithville when the alleged incidents occurred.

Smith and the McCulloughs were also arrested for elder abuse about a year ago, but have not gone to trial on that charge.
