RECORD BREAKING TEMPS HIT REGION

(10/08/2007)
It was a hot October weekend.

Temperatures in Beckley and Parkersburg have hit record levels as hot temperatures hit the state.

In Parkersburg, a 48-year-old record fell as the temperature rose to 91 degrees. The previous record was 90 degrees set in 1959.

The National Weather Service says the temperature in Beckley hit 79 degrees Friday afternoon. That broke the old record of 78 set in 1997.

The 90 degrees recorded Friday in Charleston wasn't a record. But the weather service says it was the latest date in October that the temperature hit 90 degrees since Oct. 5, 1941.

The 90 degree weather will continue today, with a 40% chance of showers Tuesday.
