The Spencer Detachment of the West Virginia National Guard has arrived in Kuwait, poised for duty in Baghdad.

The soldiers, including thirteen from Calhoun, say they are getting used to the 110 degree heat.

The unit is expected to become part of President George Bush's surge to turn the Iraq war around, with entry into Iraq expected about October 15th.

A solider e-mailed home to say "We are ready to complete the mission and return home safely."
