Calhoun's Jr. Varsity football team exploded for 24 points in the 2nd quarter on Monday evening and combined that with a staunch defensive effort and a 127 yard rushing night for Nick Stevens into a 32-8 victory over the Hawks of South Harrison High School.

Both teams gave up the ball on fumbles on their 1st offensive plays of the game deep in Hawk territory.

South Harrison then began an 11 play drive, but stalled and was forced to punt to Calhoun.

On a 1st and 10 at its own 35 yard line, Calhoun running back Nick Stevens sprinted around the left side for 49 yards and a 1st down deep in Hawk territory.

The Hawk defense stiffened and held the Red Devils on downs at the 24 yard line.

The Red Devil 2nd quarter onslaught began as the Hawks were forced to punt on a 4th and 21 at their 14 yard line.

Calhoun's Randy Fluharty burst through to block the punt into the endzone where it was covered by a South Harrison player for a safety and a Calhoun 2-0 lead with 9:05 remaining in the quarter.

After the free kick by the Hawks, Calhoun took over the ball at the South Harrison 40 yard line. On the 1st play, Stevens bounced off a tackle at the line of scrimmage and sprinted down the left sideline for the touchdown.

Randy Fluharty ran the ball for the two point conversion and the score stood 10-0 Calhoun with 8:48 remaining in the quarter.

Calhoun's Randy Fluharty intercepted a Hawk pass on their 1st play from scrimmage after the kickoff, and took it all the way back to the 8 yard line.

Penalties pushed the Red Devils back to the 25 yard line on 3rd down and goal. A 15 yard run to the 10 yard line by Fluharty, followed by a 10 yard 4th down scamper by Stevens, and Calhoun was up 16-0.

Sean Gungle scored on the two point conversion and the lead was 18-0 with 5:41 remaining in the 2nd quarter.

Calhoun held the Hawks on their possession after the kickoff and began a possession at its own 44 yard line. The Red Devils marched the ball downfield with the big plays being a 25 yard run by Daniel Sims, and a 37 yard pass completion from Gungle to Dillon Mefford.

Gungle scored the touchdown on a keeper from the three yard line. The conversion attempt was stopped and Calhoun led 24-0 as the 1st half ended.

Calhoun would score on a 20 yard pass to Tyler Bennett on its 1st possession of the 2nd half. Ben Laughlin carried for the two point conversion and the Red Devils led 32-0.

South Harrison finally got on the board early in the 4th quarter on a one yard run and two point conversion to cut the lead to 32-8.

However that was all the Hawks could muster, and the rest of the game was a stalemate with the final score being Calhoun 42, South Harrison 8.
