WV HAS LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE ON RECORD - Three Chickens In Every Pot

(09/18/2007)
If you believe West Virginia's unemployment numbers are valid indicators of employment and the status of the state's economy - August was a flag waving month.

Workforce West Virginia says the state's unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.7 percent in August.

That's the lowest August rate on record.

About 1,600 jobs were added in the non-farm employment sector and there was a gain of 300 in the goods-producing sector and 1,300 in the service-producing sector.

The national rate remained unchanged at 4.6 percent.

The State's unemployment figure has been the only statistic issued regularly to the media for 25 years or so.

The statistic surely is the darling of every politician who wants to look good.

In Calhoun County, there are now three chickens in every pot.
