ROANE POLICEMAN DIES TRAGICALLY IN CRASH

(09/11/2007)
A well-known Roane and Jackson County law enforcement officer has died from injuries he received Monday evening in a car crash near Spencer.

Grover Anderson, in his 60s, of Spencer was dead on arrival at Roane General Hospital after he crashed near the Grandview Motel, just west of Spencer on US 33.

Anderson had just conducted a concealed weapons class in Calhoun, according to Sheriff Carl Ballengee, who said "He was a highly respected law officer."

Anderson was currently employed as an officer with the Spencer Police Department, but had retired following a career with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

The Spencer-Roane VFD and the Roane County Emergency Squad responded to the scene just after 5 p.m. and reportedly had to use the jaws-of-life to extract Anderson.

The body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner's office. Funeral arrangements will be completed at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home in Spencer.
