The generator at Minnie Hamilton Health System was put to its biggest test this past month when it was forced to provide power for the entire facility for several hours.

During one of the hottest days of the summer, Allegheny Power was called to replace an electric pole located directly behind the hospital. For the majority of that one day and part of the next, MHHS was running solely on generator power.

Maintenance supervisor Art Bell praised the work of the Allegheny Power employees saying their response time was "super" and the complete change-over was "very smooth." The generator "did a great job on a super hot couple of days."

The generator was purchased in 2004 with a grant from Homeland Security. The Calhoun Commission supported the grant application to obtain the electrical generating system.
