3 PM - Spencer Police have arrested Roger Chapman, age 30, of Prospect Street, and charged him with bank robbery and malicious assault. He is currently being held in Central Regional Jail.

Chapman entered the Traders Bank of Spencer about noon today in an apparent attempt to commit robbery.

Police reports say Chapman produced a barber's razor and cut bank official David Boothe, obtaining $63 from Boothe. Boothe's injuries were to his hand.

During the encounter with Boothe, Chapman (left) apparently attacked the bank official. Spencer Chief of Police Gary Williams has also charged Chapman with "strangulation or suffocation."

Apparently Chapman did not get away with any bank funds.

He fled the building into the downtown neighborhood, with city, county and State Police looking for him.

Chapman apparently went into a nearby barber shop, where he shed a t-shirt and according to one source, asked for a haircut.

Fleeing that establishment, he was reportedly caught by law enforcement about a block away at the corner of Market St. and Bartlett Avenue.
