Rev. Paul Roger Smith, age 88, of Dalton, Ohio, formerly of Orrville, Ohio and Spencer, WV died Saturday, September 1, 2007, at Shady Lawn Health Care Community in Dalton where he has resided for the last three years.

Local services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Harvest Hills Church of the Nazarene in Orrville, with Revs. Stanley Ward and Paul Shallenburg officiating.

A service will be held at the Church of the Nazarene in Spencer, WV on Thursday, September 6, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at the Sand Ridge Cemetery in Spencer, where military rites will be observed.

Friends may call on Tuesday at the Harvest Hills Church of the Nazarene in Orrville from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service and on Wednesday at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home in Spencer, WV from 6-9 p.m. Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is assisting with the arrangements. Paul was born on May 27, 1919, in Beverly, West Virginia, to the late Reuben Levi and Minnie Alice (Folks) Smith and married Hallie Naoma Brannon. She died in 1959. He later married Madaline Brannon. She died in 2001.

He graduated from Bethany Nazarene College (Southern Nazarene University) and served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. Paul worked as a carpenter by trade and was an ordained Elder for the Church of the Nazarene as an evangalist and home mission pastor for over 60 years.

Paul was an active member of the Spencer Church of the Nazarene in West Virginia for many years. After moving to Ohio, he attended the Wadsworth Church of the Nazarene and, most recently, the Harvest Hills Church of the Nazarene in Orrville. He was an avid outdoorsman as he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Surviving are a daughter, Rogera Flack of Orrville; a grandson, Ethan Joseph Flack of Orrville; a sister, Bernice Morgan of Czar, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Sonny Smith; two brothers, Glen Smith and Edwin Smith; and two sisters, Ruth Snyder and Elizabeth DePoy.
