EIGHTY EMPLOYEES LOSE JOBS AT BENSON'S MINERAL WELLS PLANT

(08/31/2007)
About 80 employees of Benson International will be losing their jobs, the Mineral Wells plant is ceasing operation.

The truck bodies manufacturing company has operated in Wood County since the late 1960s. Employees were informed of the company's decision to close the plant yesterday.

The company is citing plummeting sales for its' truck and trailer products.

The action is effective immediately. However, employee pay and benefits will continue until Oct. 31.

"Despite our best efforts, the Mineral Wells facility has been unable to recover from harsh market conditions, resulting in the decision necessary at this time," explained John Earles, director of human resources for the company. "Sales at the Mineral Wells facility are down substantially from similar time periods in 2006 with no realistic sales increase in sight."
