CRESTON POST OFFICE ON EDGE OF CLOSURE

(08/30/2007)
The closure of the Creston post office is still looming.

Michael G. Bailey, Manager of Post Office Operations in Clarksburg, told the Herald yesterday "We are determining to see what can be done," facing the loss of the lease on the PO building on October 4th.

Bailey said PO officials are looking at other facility locations to lease, that meet access and safety criteria.

"There will be no disruption of service," Bailey said, indicating that rural and contract mail customers can be delivered out of any post office.

He indicated special consideration needs to be made for customers who have a post office box in the building.

Acknowledging a short time frame remains, Bailey said "We're going to do what we can."

Bailey wrote Creston resident Alvin Engelke in July saying, "I am pleased to tell you there are no plans to close Creston at this time."
