MORE ANIMAL ATTACKS REPORTED IN COUNTY - Black Bear On Back Porch

(08/21/2007)

This black bear photo was taken on the back porch of
Rob and Diann Clothier's house on Sycamore, on July 28

Since publishing the account of an apparent attack on a burro by a black bear, we've received calls about other attacks on animals.

Sherry Jones of Back Fork says she believes an animal attacked her 900-pound horse in July, leaving what she says is claw marks on its left side and a wound to its face.

Jones said DNR officials, after examining the horse, said the marks were from a barbed wire fence.

"I really believe it was a bear," she said.

Lynn Morrison said an attack on her horse near Nobe was likely from a "cat" animal, leaving numerous scratches across the animals shoulders.

"My husband,Weldon Morrison, found large cat tracks near the attack," she said.
