CALHOUN'S 911 CENTER BACK IN OPERATION

(08/20/2007)
Calhoun's 911 center is back in operation after a 55-hour effort involving service providers, the state's mobile emergency communication center, local 911 employees and volunteers and a loaned console and transmitter through the generosity of Mason County.

The center went down following a lightning strike Thursday evening, with virtually all the electronic equipment in the building made inoperable.

Communication services were shifted to the Arnoldsburg VFD. The state's mobile communication center was then brought from Charleston to put the system back in operation at the Mt. Zion site.

Technicians installed the loaned equipment from Mason County through Saturday and Sunday.

The strike apparently came through the electrical system and possibly a direct hit on the building's metal roof.

An early estimate of damage is between $50,000-$75,000, although it could exceed that amount.
