WV'S DIRTIEST POWER PLANTS

(07/27/2007)
WV's dirtiest power plants are in Harrison County and Monongalia County.

The state has the highest incidence of asthma in the nation.

The Environmental Integrity Project report lists the Fort Martin power plant in Monongalia County as the third dirtiest power plant in the state in sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon dioxide and mercury emissions.

Its owner, Allegheny Energy, is installing scrubbers and other pollution control devices at their plant.

The Harrison Power Station near Shinnston is listed as the fourth dirtiest power plant in the state and the 32nd dirtiest power plant in the country.

Several other West Virginia power plants are also on the list.
