ELIZABETH ARSONIST SENTENCED 60 YEARS

(07/10/2007)
It was a stiff sentence for Willie Trembly, Jr., now 20, of Elizabeth.

Trembly appeared before Circuit Judge Robert Waters to face sentencing for his part in setting a June 14, 2006 fire that destroyed the historic Roberts Store and destroyed a number of other buildings in Elizabeth.

Trembly and Jerod Evans, 20, also of Wirt County, have been charged with the crimes. Both men pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree arson, breaking and entering and causing injury through arson in regard to firefighters.

The young men were in the process of burglarizing the building when they set the fire.

Waters sentenced Trembly to 1-10 years on the charge of breaking and entering, 10 years each for three counts of second-degree arson and 10 years each for two counts of causing injury through arson.

Evans is scheduled to be sentenced August 7 at 11 a.m.
