Lee J. McKown, 83 - Arnoldsburg

Lee J. McKown, 83, of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, died June 28, 2007 at Roane General Hospital in Spencer.

He was born May 6, 1924 at Beech, a son of the late Lee and Vada Hall McKown. He was a timberman, pipeliner, and previously worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a US Army veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie Wallbrown McKown; seven daughters, Frances Greathouse of Arnoldsburg, Patty and George Dickey of Nicut, Joyce and Paul Newell of Orma, Sherry and Dave Dalo of Canton, Ohio, Judy and Rodney Schartiger of Shock, Donna and Clarence Butler of Arnoldsburg, and Sandra and Paul Butler of Minnora; five sons, James and Karen, Eddie and Debbie, Johnny, Jerry and Barbara, and Mike and Diana, all of Arnoldsburg; five sisters, Iva Hoskins, Sue Romine, Bonnie Hoffman, Phyllis Spurlock, and Barbara Miller; two brothers, Bill and Glen; 25 grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Eugene and Danny; two brothers, Oval "Gene" and Brice; a son-in-law, Bill Greathouse; two grandsons; and two step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 1 at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer with Rev. Rick Metheny officiating. Burial will be in the Road Run Cemetery near Arnoldsburg with military graveside rites by local veterans.

Visiting hours are Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
