GILMER MAN SENTENCED IN SHOOTING DEATH

(06/26/2007)
A Gilmer County circuit judge has sentenced Everett Campbell, 34, to one year in jail for killing Mark Medley, 40, of Moundsville.

Medley was killed in July 2006 in Sand Fork during a child custody dispute.

Medley was the boyfriend of Campbell's ex-wife.

Police say Campbell shot Medley twice with a .357 revolver.

Campbell was originally charged with second-degree murder.

When he was tried in April, a jury found Campbell guilty of involuntary manslaughter, reducing the sentence.

Campbell has been sentenced to the maximum for that crime by Judge Richard Facemire, which is one year in jail and court costs.

Campbell asked for home confinement or probation instead of the jail time.

Those requests were denied.
