(06/14/2007)
The employment situation is bright and sunny, if you base your perception on the state's official employment numbers.

State unemployment fell to the lowest May rate ever.

WORKFORCE WV says job gains occurred across the board.

The unemployment rate declined by two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.4 percent.

The service-producing sector added 4,600 jobs and the goods-producing sector gained 1,800 jobs. The total number of unemployed residents fell by 1,200 to 35,800.

Gains in the service-providing sector included 1,900 in leisure and hospitality, 1,000 in government and 1,000 in trade, transportation and utilities.

Construction led the goods-producing sector with 1,500 jobs.
