ARNOLDSBURG SCHOOL ANNEX WILL GET NEW ROOF - Veteran Clinton Cottrell Gets His Diploma

(06/12/2007)
A new roof will be placed on the Arnoldsburg School's multi-purpose room, according to Donnie Pitts, facilities coordinator.

Pitt's told school board members last night that two bids were received, the lowest being from Singer Sheet Metal in Parkersburg for $44,288.

Board member Cynthia Dale reported on a May 31st meeting regarding the School Access Safety Plan.

Dale said one of the primary goals of the plan is to regulate the entering and leaving of public schools, supported by most parents and school systems to assure the safety of children.

She said there was discussion regarding how the public might become frustrated regarding the tightening of security.

"We're looking at how a number of other counties are developing their plans," Dale said.

Superintendent Ron Blankenship announced the awarding of a long-delayed high school diploma to Clinton Cottrell, who would have graduated from the old Calhoun County High School in 1937.

"This school board has awarded diplomas to seven veterans, whose education was disrupted by military service," he said.

Lynch new Calhoun School's superintendent

The approval of the new superintendent's contract will be completed at the June 18th meeting, according to board president Lee Evans.

Jane Lynch will assume the position in July, following the retirement of Ron Blankenship.
