(06/07/2007)
A Calhoun-connected man died instantly June 5th in Suffolk VA when his car slammed into an oncoming tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 58 Bypass.

Robert "Mike" Elliot, 57, was driving a Saturn eastbound when he veered across the grassy median, crashing into a westbound semi truck, said Lt. Debbie J. George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department.

He was the son of the late Tuck and Guinn Robinson Elliott of Grantsville.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Witnesses reported seeing the victim slumped over the wheel moments before the collision, George said. Police are looking into the possibility he may have had a medical emergency that caused him to have the accident, he added.

No charges are anticipated against the operator of the tractor trailer.
