Helen Nutter is a patient in the coronary unit of the Camden-Clark Hospital. She did not have a heart attack and more tests are scheduled to determine her problem.

Dave McFee suffered a heart attack while attending a car race and is also a patient at the City Hospital in Parkersburg.

Rev. Paul Williams filled his final appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church. In the afternoon there was a picnic in his honor at the residence of David and Peggy Tenbarge across the run from the church house. He will be ministering on the Chesterville charge.

Eva G. Pennington consulted with her physician and received a less than good report.

On Thursday the Creston area received a little rain and on Sunday afternoon there was a drizzle but things remain very dry and streams are low. On June 1 the mercury climbed to 91 F and it was reported that the record of 96 was set back in 1895.

There was a nice crowd for the Creston Community auction and lots of nice things found new homes. If one sees Harold Sturms be sure to ask him what he is going to put in those coolers.

The female Husky that ended up at the Hall residence on Little Creek was reunited with the owners and now a very nice, well trained dog that loves children but doesn't understand about busy highways, has turned up at the Tenbarge residence in Burning Springs. By calling Peggy or Dave at 275-3270 and describing the pooch the owner can have him back.

Euell Russell reported that the repo man had been calling in the Creston area.

Several area residents took in the Wood Festival at Grantsville.

Jim Bush has a fine young mule out of his big Percheon mare using a Matheny Jack. Jim also went down to Kentucky and fetched back a fine Jack. His wife Barbara made a batch of fine cottage cheese.

Donna Sue Ferrell has been on the sick list.

The Creston post office got in another shipment of Star Wars stamps reflecting the interest in galactic matters and the triumph of good over evil.

Lanny Meadows reported that there is a new drug out to treat various kinds of depression and anxiety problems. Information on the new compound, Oxyclinton, is available on the Internet.

Shaw Brothers Construction Company built a fine new outbuilding for the Creston Community Building. One might want to contact them before starting one's next building project as they do fine work.

Bucks are now in the velvet and it would appear that there should be some fine racks when harvest time rolls around. Also there seem to be lots of bushytails along the highways so there should be plenty to use to make squirrel gravy to go with sweet potatoes and biscuits in the fall.

The Loudins spent the weekend on their cabin on the old Pell place. Apparently someone told them it was on the Sanoma road. That should prove interesting at some point and time.

Amvest Coal Company is leasing coal for longwall mining starting at Belleville in Wood County where the seam is 25 feet thick. This would be 44,500 tons/acre and at $40/ton that would be $1.78 million/acre. One mineral owner signed an agreement that would yield about one thousand/acre in royalties. Of course when the land falls down 25 feet one can imagine what will happen to what is on the top, houses, springs, wells, streams, fences, gas lines, roadways, etc.

Audrey McClendon's Chesapeake Appalachia is asking for special field rules in southern W. Va. so they can drill into the Onondaga to "completely test" the Marcellus shale. A hearing is scheduled before the Oil & Gas Conservation Commission. Not so long ago, Columbia Natural Resources, the predecessor company drilled some wells in Roane County to the Oriskany formation and the permits stated that they only went to the Devonian shale. Other operators have drilled several much deeper wells elsewhere and told only close associates while uncooperative inspectors were banned from the locations.

The price of local Penn grade crude rose to $60.25 while crude in Pennsylvania was worth $61.25.

Last week it was mentioned about poisons from China being in pet food and this week it seems that the communists have now sent the American devils (that's us) toothpaste laced with antifreeze. The Russian strongman or dictator or president has threatened Europe with missiles and the liberal darling in Venezuela who is Fidel's buddy decided to enact "the fairness doctrine" promoted by Mrs. Pelosi and Albert Gore Jr. and shut down the opposition Tee Vee station. One might do well to reread "Animal Farm" and "1984". Dan Blather and his ilk never had it so good.
