US CHAMBER BACKING-OFF WV LAWYERS AND COURTS

(05/21/2007)
The US Chamber of Commerce has experienced a back-lash over a media campaign against West Virginia lawyers, claiming they are guilty of filing more lawsuits than any other state in the US.

The ads have been taken off the state's airwaves, by the national Chamber.

The Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce has complained about the national group, which has also attacked the state's courts and judges.

The regional chamber says that ads won't help improve the state's legal system.

A national nonpartisan group has slammed the US Chamber for using false information in its ads.

FactCheck.org labels the ads as "misleading," including a TV spot alleging costs from "lawsuit abuse."

The group says the Chamber is ignoring key findings that show that the cost of all lawsuits are at the lowest level in ten years.

The US Chamber has said they are standing by their ad.
