Black Walnut Festival. Katie Murray, 21, of Ripley was chosen from a field of 30 candidates Saturday during the annual Miss Black Walnut Festival Scholarship Pageant at Roane County High School. She was crowned by last year's queen, Kayla Boggs, also a GSC student. Queen Katie is the daughter of Robert and Janet Murray. Her mother, the former Janet Bush, is a 1973 graduate of Spencer High School.
