RITCHIE WATER BOARD WILL GET IMPROVEMENTS

(05/08/2007)
State Director Robert M. Steptoe, III, announced yesterday that Rural Development approved a Water and Waste Disposal Loan of $410,000 and a Grant of $272,000 for Hughes River Water Board in Ritchie County, West Virginia.

Rural Development funds will be used to install a belt filter press at the water plant to replace the existing sludge baggage system.

The Hughes River Water Board has operated their water plant for approximately five years. They initially served the Town of Harrisville, and in May 2003 began serving the Town of Cairo and the City of Pennsboro.

"The board has had to bring in portable dewatering equipment to alleviate an emergency situation to dispose of water plant waste sludge. This funding will be an end solution to that problem and improve the overall quality of water service to residents in Ritchie County," remarked Steptoe.
