LAURA PFEFFER WVU SENIOR SCHOLAR OF THE YEAR - Graduating Summa Cum Laude

Laura Pfeffer, a graduate of Calhoun County High School class of 2003, was honored last week as the Outstanding Senior Scholar of the Year in the department of English, by the West Virginia University Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

Laura is the daughter of former Calhoun resident Linda Sandel Pettit and the late Jim Pfeffer.

Noted were Laura's "energy, warmth and willingness to work" as well as her "natural curiosity about many literary and theoretical subjects."

Laura was also awarded the Eloise Gunn Divers Presidential Scholarship, which is given each year to outstanding graduates of Calhoun County High School.

The scholarship was established in the memory of Eloise Gunn Divers, who taught many years in the Calhoun County school system.

In addition, Laura received, for the second year in a row, the McKay-Coast Scholarship, which recognizes high academic potential among WVU students in the English, history, mathematics and philosophy departments.

Laura will graduate Summa Cum Laude from West Virginia University on May 12th.

She has been accepted into the doctoral program in literature at Arizona State University. Laura will be studying transnational literature and plans to pursue a career in teaching at the university level.

She has been awarded a teaching assistantship to fund her studies.
