INTEREST IN VOTING CONTINUES TO DECLINE

(04/26/2007)
It has often been disappointing, the number of registered voters that have voted in Grantsville elections.

About 75 voted in a recent election, out of 265 voters.

Consider what just happened in Morgantown.

City Clerk Linda Little says only 215 out of nearly 14,000 registered voters in the town came out to the polls this week.

Only 1.5 percent, a low number for one of the state's fastest growing areas.

It was the lowest turnout in ten years.

An explanation, there was no or little competition on the ballot.

Four years ago in the Morgan County town of Bath, only 13 of the town's 400 registered voters, showed up.

The American public's lack of interest in voting could eventually create a constitutional tragedy.
