FORMER ROANE STUDENT PLEADS GUILTY TO BURNING CLENDENIN STORE

(04/24/2007)
A Kanawha County teenager has pled guilty to setting a fire that destroyed the Dollar General Store in Clendenin.

The US Attorney's office says 18-year-old Tiara L. Spencer of Clendenin, a former student at Roane County High School, admitted in federal court that she set the fire at the store on December 29th.

Spencer plead guilty to a one-count information charging her with maliciously destroying by fire a building used in interstate commerce.

Spencer faces up to 20 years in prison, up to two million dollars in restitution and a $250,000 fine.

US District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin has scheduled sentencing for July 18th.
