ROANE SUFFERING POWER OUTAGE - Spencer Firemen Carefully Fighting Brush Fire

(04/17/2007)
About 3000 electric customers in Roane County were without power shortly after midnight today, with lines reportedly down from a day of high winds sweeping across the area.

Most of western Roane County was without power, but power was also out to WVRC's radio transmitter on Arnoldsburg Road.

The power outage created some problems for emergency communications.

The Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department was responding to a brush fire on the hillside across the road from Spencer's Foodland, apparently caused by downed power lines.

Firemen were cautiously tending to the fire, worried about downed lines.

Several thousand WV electric customers were without power yesterday as a result of flooding, mostly in southern West Virginia.
