RAISE THE BANNER HIGH - A War Was Over

(04/04/2007)

Photo courtesy of Juanita Haught Willard

The end of World War I was a time of great rejoicing in Calhoun County, with more than the average number of local soldiers engaged in the conflict.

This photo was taken on November 18, 1918 at Court and Main Street in Grantsville, an impromptu parade of cars and flags.

Notice the Red Cross flag to far right. To the right is steps to old courthouse. All the buildings to the left, in that block, burned shortly after the photo was taken.
