GRANT WOULD INCREASE COURTHOUSE SECURITY

(03/02/2007)
The Calhoun Commission is taking advantage of funding, applying for a courthouse security grant.

Earlier security grants have provided several security cameras and recording equipment, in addition to computerized access doors on the outside of the building.

The latest grant calls for three additional cameras to be installed in the courtroom, with a recorder-monitor being placed in the sheriff's office.

Two cameras would be installed in the hallway outside the courtroom, and another in the prisoner holding area.

Two cameras would be installed outside in a narrow walkway.

The plan would provide better security for the court system and its employees.
