A Gilmer County businessman is now leading advancement and fundraising efforts for Glenville State College. GSC President, Dr. Peter Barr, says Dennis J. 'Denny' Pounds has been appointed to the position of Vice President for College Advancement-Executive Director of the GSC Foundation.

"He will be responsible for leading our efforts to launch a capital campaign and for pro-active fundraising now and in the future. Pounds' years of experience in the corporate sector, as well as his knowledge of GSC and Gilmer County, qualify him for this position," said Barr.

Pounds has held top-level management positions with McDonald's since 1974 and is in the process of selling the Glenville McDonald's, which he has owned and operated since 1996. He has also served as GSC Foundation Treasurer for the past five years and says he looks forward to serving the Foundation and Glenville State in his new role.

"I am ecstatic! I have been a patron, a volunteer, a supporter, and a donor for the college and the GSC Foundation. I'm excited about this opportunity to take my love for this institution to help its future. There is tremendous potential for gifts from resources that haven't ever been tapped," said Pounds.

Barr says Pounds was appointed to the position following a unanimous vote by the GSC Foundation Board members. GSC Foundation President, Tim Butcher, said "I am pleased the Foundation Board members gave approval to the selection of Denny. I believe his experience in top-level management with McDonald's while working with people all over the world will serve him well in accomplishing the goals the Foundation has set for the future."

GSC faculty, staff, and students as well as local residents attended a January 19th public presentation on campus where Pounds discussed his goals for Glenville State College and the GSC Foundation. Pounds said, "I want to thank everyone who attended. I appreciate the support I have received at every level."
