Buddy Lee Carpenter, 67 - Spencer

Buddy Lee Carpenter, 67, of Spencer, West Virginia died January 17, 2007 at Roane General Hospital, Spencer after a year-long courageous struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Buddy was born May 6, 1939 in Spencer, a son of the late Bertha Sarah Jane Carpenter. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his uncle, William H. Carpenter, who raised him as a son; brother Michael Carpenter; and cousin, Billy Carpenter, who was raised as a brother.

He was a former member and deacon of the Spencer Baptist Temple and a member of the Roane County Gun Club. He was a retied millwright for Pechiney Roller Products of Ravenswood, WV and was a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local #5668. He was a former member of the Blue Grass Riding Club and was previously employed by Monarch Rubber Company and Ravens Metal.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley McKown Carpenter; one son, Marvin Lee Carpenter of Spencer; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Moles of Chloe, WV; two granddaughters, Samantha and Jessica Moles, both of Chloe; sisters, Regina (Rev. Thomas) Maddox of Waycross, GA, Ethel (Jerry) Roop of Ravenna, Carol (Patrick) Mitchell and Roberta Fox both of Parkersburg, WV; cousins who were raised as siblings, Larry (Bonnie) Carpenter and Mava (Dare) McCumbers, both of Spencer and Lavon Anderson of Belvidere, IL; his mother-in-law, Imogene Scott of Spencer; and his special companion, his dog, Megan.

A Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer. Rev. Hayward Lough and Pastor Bill Walton will officiate.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Per his request, the body was cremated. The family asks that all flowers be omitted, and instead donations be made to the Roane County Animal Shelter, 2550 Parkersburg Road, Spencer, WV 25276.
