VIENNA MAN DEAD IN RT. 47 CRASH - Smithville Resident Life-Flighted To Morgantown

A Vienna man is dead following an early Tuesday morning crash on Route 47. Thirty-four-year-old Anthony Alawat died just after 5 a.m. when his Dodge Dakota truck was hit head on by another truck. Police say the driver of the other truck is 22-year-old Derrick Elliott of Smithville. They say Elliot's truck veered into the oncoming lane for an unknown reason. Police are using event data recorders, which are now found in most vehicles, to determine what happened moments before the wreck. This technology allows crash experts to see what happened. Elliott was life-flighted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, his condition unknown.
