THINGS I THINK I HEARD ON THE SCANNER

(01/17/2007)
Monday night, a young Calhoun man stopped his pick-up truck along the Little Kanawha River near Cain's Riffle along State Route 5, making an emergency stop to relieve his bladder.

While positioning himself behind the truck, the truck apparently slipped into gear and began rolling toward the river. The river was swollen after several days of rain.

The young man made a valiant effort to get back in the truck to stop it, but failed.

It plunged into the Little Kanawha and was swept downstream.

Reports yesterday indicated the truck was spotted about 200 feet downstream.

There were no injuries.
