Sibyl Jarvis Pischke, 88 - Spencer

Sibyl Pischke, 88, of Spencer, died Monday, January 8, 2007, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

She was born December 29, 1918, at Oka, a daughter of the late Spencer "Doc" and Effie J. McClain Jarvis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, John White.

Sibyl was a former beautician, florist, poet and novelist. She was a 1938 graduate of Calhoun County High School and a Protestant.

She published several books, including The Legend of Mammy Jane, Matches at Midnight and Ashes of Roses and War.

"Mammy Jane" was an account of the life and times of her grandmother, Labana Jane Jarvis, after the Civil War.

Survivors include one son, William R. White, Jr. of Spencer; one sister, Irene Gunn of Chloe; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

A private funeral service was conducted Wednesday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. David Schmitt officiating. Her body has been cremated and those cremated remains will be buried in the Thomas P. Jarvis Cemetery, Oka.
