AEP PLANT EXPLOSION KILLS ONE, INJURES A DOZEN

An explosion at 9:20 a.m. today at an American Electric Power plant in Beverly OH near Marietta has killed at least one person and injured at least a dozen.

At least six workers have been taken to Marietta hospitals.

The explosion happened when workers were unloading hydrogen gas at the Muskingum River plant. The gas is used as a coolant for steam generators.

AEP is one of the nation's largest power generators, with more than five million customers in eleven states, including this region.
