MINERAL WELLS LIVESTOCK MARKET CLOSES

(01/06/2007)
Some regional livestock producers will have to find another auction market where they can sell their animals.

Agriculture Commissioner Gus Douglass says the Mineral Wells Livestock Exchange has closed.

Douglass hopes another operator will take over the facility and reopen it.

The auction had $6.5 million in sales last year. Overall, the markets generate about $70 million in the state.

Guy Randolph and Richard Randolph of Spencer have been operating the lease since 2003.

There are 11 livestock auction markets throughout the state.

Markets in Spencer and Weston will likely be destinations for cattle raised in the region.
