GASOLINE TAXES GO UP

(01/05/2007)
You're paying more for gasoline.

The new year marks the start of an increase to the wholesale sales tax on gasoline in West Virginia.

The increase is almost a nickel a gallon extra for every gallon of gas you buy.

You've already been paying about six-cents a gallon for the wholesale tax.

The money goes to the state Road Fund, and is expected to generate $63 million in the coming year.

West Virginia is ranked eleventh in the country when it comes to taxes on gasoline.

If you add the federal taxes and state taxes on gas, you're paying almost 50 cents in taxes for every gallon.
