NEAR COLLISION WITH PATROL CAR ENDS IN DUI ARREST

(12/30/2006)
A near collision, and a chase of a Calhoun man led to the arrest of Ryan M. Richards, 22, for DUI and multiple other charges late Friday night.

Calhoun sheriff's deputy Justin Metheney said he had a near head-on collision with the Richards' Chevy S-10 in a sharp turn on Pleasant Hill.

"It was as close as I've ever come to having a head-on," said Metheney.

The deputy turned around and pursued Richard's, who failed to stop, leading the officer down White Pine Road and up Road Fork toward Nobe.

Cpl. 1st Class Jeff Hunt blocked the rural road with his cruiser, ending the chase about midnight.

Richards is in Central Regional Jail, charged with DUI-2nd offense, DUI fleeing, driving revoked and driving left of center.

Bond is set at $7,000.
