CLENDENIN FIRES MAY HAVE BEEN SET

Fire destroyed the Dollar General Store in Clendenin last night, with seven fire departments able to save a nearby post office and most other nearby structures. A second fire was reported at a Sav-a-Lot store at the same time, with indications the fires were set. Employees were able to put out the fire in the grocery store. Dollar General employees reported females came into the store, igniting some paper towels earlier in the evening. A major fire struck the community in 2002, destroying about a half-dozen businesses. Major fires struck Salem, Mann, Sutton and Elizabeth in 2006.
