Frankie E. Criss, 85 - Spencer

Frankie E. Criss, 85, of Spencer, died Thursday, December 21, 2006, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

She was born December 14, 1921, in Spencer, a daughter of the late Harry Edward and Clara Esta Ball Greathouse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Greathouse and O. Jimmy Greathouse; three sisters, Virginia Hively, Helen Cox and Elizabeth Greathouse.

During the World War II years, Frankie worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in plants in the Wheeling, W.Va. area and also in Akron, Ohio. Also, she worked as a truck driver in the Westoverfield, Mass. area. She was a former employee of Roane General Hospital, Spencer. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 21 and the Roane General Hospital Auxiliary, Spencer.

Survivors include her husband, Walter A. Criss of Spencer; son and daughter-in-law, Norman A. and Susan Criss of Louisville, KY; daughter and son-in-law, Nora A. and Charles L. Cox of Barberton, OH; four grandchildren, Scott Criss, Beth Ann Stumpf, Christopher B. Cox and April D. Cox; two great grandchildren, Morgan and Meghan Stumpf.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Spencer, with the Rev. Leon B. Strickland officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.

Friends may call at the church from 6-8 p.m. on Friday.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
