OIL SPILL ON LEFT SYCAMORE CREEK

(12/22/2006)

Oil appears as a tan sludge on top of water

There was an oil spill Wednesday on the Left Fork of Sycamore, with oil reportedly coming from an abandoned pipe line.

The oil has flowed down the creek creating pockets of oil, according to local resident Pastor Edward Keen, Jr.

"State employees on the scene have described it as coming from an abandoned line," said Keen.

Catch boxes were erected to keep the oil contained. Sycamore Creek empties into the Little Kanawha River at Russett.

The oil has impacted a family of mallard
ducks and other wildlife in the creek.
