Teen driver cited for fatal collision

A teenage driver involved in a fatal head-on collision has been cited for failure to maintain control and driving left of center.

Police have yet to determine what caused the collision on Nov. 24 that took the life of Armedia "Medie" Hall, 46, of Simmons Street, Spencer.

The other driver was a 17-year-old boy whose name has not been released by police.

Sgt. J.E. Elmore Jr. of the State Police detachment in Spencer said Hall was southbound on W.Va. 36 when her 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass was struck by a northbound 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by the teen, who is from the Newton area.

Elmore said the teen does not remember what caused his car to cross into the opposite lane. There were no signs of excessive speed and no skid marks at the scene.

"We don't know if he blacked out," Elmore said. "He was not under the influence of anything." ...
