(12/01/2006)
A Coalton, Ohio man was arrested Wednesday evening by the Calhoun Sheriff's Department after his vehicle landed on its top on Mud Fork, off State Rt. 16 at Stinson.

James Harold Friend, 21, told Deputy Justin Metheney he bent down to adjust his radio in a 1996 Chevy Corsica, causing him to wreck.

Friend was arrested for driving revoked DUI and failure to maintain control, and was taken to Central Regional Jail.

Calhoun Sheriff Carl Ballengee and Deputy Craig Gherke also responded to the 911 call.

A Vienna WV man has been arrested by State Police for brandishing a deadly weapon, DUI and domestic assault.

Richard L. Moellendick, 51, according to the police complaint, was separated from his spouse who lives at Mt. Zion.

Moellendick entered a house where his spouse was present. While at the residence, the report says he pulled a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol, cocked the hammer and pointed it at his wife.

The victim and her daughter talked Moellendick into surrendering the gun, indicating he then "passed out due to being intoxicated."

The victim, fearing for her safety left the residence and notified police.

Moellendick apparently came to, doing damage to the residence, and then left the area in his vehicle after which authorities arrested him for DUI.

Sgt. C. J. Ellyson reported Moellendick's vehicle traveled across the center line into the path of his cruiser, causing him to veer to the right of the roadway to avoid a collision.

Moellendick failed a field sobriety test and later tested .144 BAC.

He was taken to Central Regional Jail, where he posted bond and was released.

Trooper 1st Class Jeff Hunt arrested a Chloe couple following what was described as a domestic dispute.

Alan Ray Nelson, Jr., 21, was charged with domestic battery following a dispute with Shannon Dee Schoolcraft, 28, who was charged with obstructing an officer.

Officer Hunt and Deputy Sheriff Craig Gherke responded to what was described as a domestic situation at Carte's Trailer Court.

Upon arrival officer Hunt observed Shannon Schoolcraft walking from the road to the trailer court, appearing to have been in a physical altercation with injuries to her face.

Schoolcraft declined to speak with officer Hunt regarding the incident, issuing several profane directives toward the officer, slamming a door after entering the Alfred Starcher residence, according to the report.

Schoolcraft was "combative" while the officer attempted to interview Alan Ray Nelson, Jr., with witnesses giving statements that Nelson had been in an altercation with the woman.

Police said Nelson had injuries to his fist and the right side of his face.

Schoolcraft continued to be uncooperative in the matter, according to the report.

Both were charged and taken to Central Regional Jail.
